Another successful festival of folk, blues, gypsy-jazz and fusion music…

Seaton Music held its second SummerFest from August 12th to 16th at The Old Picture House in Seaton. Four nights of superb music showcasing the amazing musical talent from Devon and beyond. The festival opened with local singer and songwriter Jim Causley, who brought his own brand of folk music and entertained the crowd with humorous anecdotes.

This was followed by a welcome return of Daria Blyzniuck and her blues quartet, formed at Goldsmith’s School of Music  (now part of the University of London.) Her mellow tones were ably accompanied by Joseph Game (Piano), Harris Dakin (Saxophone) and James Leaver-Whitfield (Double Bass). It was noted how the group’s performance had matured over the last twelve months.

After a night’s rest, the pace quickened with a fantastic show by the gypsy-jazz band La Vie En Rose. A packed house lapped up the rhythms and jaunty tune as they danced the night away. The festival concluded on Sunday afternoon with a chillout session of fusion sounds from KANEKT, led by sitar player, Ricky Romain. Ricky featured in last year’s festival with an educational session of Indian classical music, but this was something on the next level. The sounds of the band as a whole are like no other and mesmerised the audience.

Both new and returning guests showed their appreciation and expressed their enjoyment of the whole event, some having purchased festival tickets for all four nights. SummerFest 2027 is already in the pipeline, so watch this space. Seaton Music would like to thank all those that supported the festival as well as the team at The Old Picture house for hosting it.
