An enthusiastic audience (including some overseas visitors) enjoyed the wonderful artistry displayed by renowned pianist Yulia Chaplina at our recent concert on May 21st at the Gateway Theatre. Starting with Tchaikovsky’s “The Seasons”, Yulia took us through a Mozart sonata, Scriabin’s Prelude for the left hand and some shorter pieces by Chopin. After rapturous applause, she took us back to Tchaikovsky with a very realistic rendition of “The Sugarplum Fairy” from The Nutcracker as an encore. Unusually we had the stage curtains open at Yulia’s suggestion, which brightened the tone of our 40 year old Steinway grand no end. A fantastic performance very well received.
This concert marked the close of Seaton Music’s 75th Season of world-class classical concerts. The 76th is already booked and let’s hope there are many more to come.
