The 76th season of Seaton Music opened in spectacular fashion at St. Andrew’s Church, Colyton. The audience were treated to a most interesting, educational, fascinating concert and musical evening with “The Monteverdi String Band” entitled “A Thousand Flexible Ways” performing works by Monteverdi, Caccini, Merula, Sances and Gesualdo, all in the most capable hands of three highly talented performers Hannah Fry, soprano, with Oliver Webber and Toby Carr on Violin and Lutes (two variants) from the period.
Their programme covered the early decades of Italian music, the precursor to the Baroque of Vivaldi and demonstrated that the early years of the seicento were astonishingly fruitful for the arts. With Oliver and Toby on violin and Lute, of which they played two sizes of Lute, their accompaniment of and harmonisation with Hannah Fry’s amazing voice was truly remarkable and gave a most memorable evening and attracted some very positive comments from the audience.
