Hello fellow music lovers.
Welcome to the first Newsletter of SeatonMusic’s 74th Season.
We last met at the Annual General Meeting, which took place during the interval of a fine concert given by Ruth Molins (flutes) and Alex Wilson (piano), in which Ruth introduced us to several different sizes of flute. The AGM was particularly important because the committee needed to explain our financial position and the actions being taken to secure the future. In brief we have introduced a scheme whereby members paying the full membership fee continue to be entitled to attend all six concerts for the price of five and those paying reduced membership will pay a reduced ticket price for each concert attended. As always there is the option of paying full price for each concert attended without being a member. It was also important because two committee members were retiring and we, therefore, needed to replace them. We hope the changes to the membership arrangements will encourage more members to join, who will then eligible to serve as committee members. Sadly, no one came forward to join the committee which is now only just viable, bearing in mind the work required to put on our concerts. We are hopeful that we may receive offers once the season starts. All clubs are only as successful as the membership allows.
So why not become a member now if you haven’t already joined this season?

The new season, our 74th, starts with a concert by the Rossetti Ensemble on 24th October which promises to be a fine start to the season. The Rosetti’s have been playing together since 2018 and have a passion for the romantic period. They bring us Beethoven’s Piano quartet in E flat Op 16. We also will be able to hear Judith Weir’s Piano Quartet, commissioned by the Cheltenham festival and Schubert Ensemble. Judith, 21st Master of the King’s Music since 2014 celebrates her 70th birthday this year so we are privileged to mark this by enjoying her Piano Quartet. Together with Arnold Bax’s piano quartet in one movement and Herbert Howells, quartet in A minor, it promises to be a memorable evening.
Looking ahead, we anticipate another entertaining evening on 21st November when the captivating Elena Fischer-Dieskau, grand daughter of the well known German baritone brings us a varied programme.
Details of all this season’s concerts which include some ‘firsts’ for Seaton Music can be found here. As you will all know, live performances of the quality for which Seaton Music is renowned are few and far between in East Devon so, spread the word and we look forward to a full house in October.
We thought you might also be interested to hear that Joel Munday, the commissioning of whose new violin Seaton Music contributed to, received excellent review and fantastic results in his Masters performance this summer, attaining a score of 98%. Many of you will remember Joel from his performances during previous Seaton Music seasons. We’re hoping to have him return in the near future.
Tickets and membership forms will be available on the doors or you can book ahead on this site. We look forward to welcoming soon.
